Earthrise
This photograph of the Earth emerging from the lunar horizon is one of the most powerful and important images ever captured.

It was taken during the Apollo 8 mission in 1968, the historic first voyage to the Moon. This was the first time humans viewed the Earth from a great distance. Read Guy Harrison's interview with Apollo 8 commander Frank Borman on the interviews page.
Spacewalk
Astronaut Ed White in Earth orbit during the Gemini 4 mission.

Ed White later died with Gus Grissom and Roger Chaffe in a fire during a launchpad test (Apollo 1).

"Spider"
This is a shot of "Spider", the first lunar module to fly in space, during its test flight in Earth orbit (Apollo 9).
